Male Grooming: Products to Get You Started

One of the characteristics of a gentleman is that he takes his grooming seriously. If you want to be a Viking gentleman, then you should have these products in your grooming arsenal.

Double Edge Safety Razor

When looking for quality shave, there is none other like the DE razor. Even professional barbers testify of its sharpness and smooth shaves. The double edge razor is a major technological advancement from the cartridge razor. This is a must-have for any gentleman.

Shaving Cream

Some things may go old and out of fashion but your granddad's wet shaving techniques can only be improved upon. Nothing beats a good old wet shaving with a DE razor. These creams are formulated with rich ingredients to help soften hairs by feeding them with the right proteins.

Shaving Brush

These brushes are used for creating and applying lather. The best shaving brush to have is the one made from badger hair. This is because the badger hair has bristles that are able to retain moisture for good lather formation and can also help in exfoliation of the skin.

After Shave

Once you are done shaving, you will need an After Shave to help prevent skin irritations and keep the skin moisturized. No shaving is truly complete without the use of an After Shave.

Vikings Blade Razor - An Amazing Journey With Me

I got the Vikings Blade as a birthday gift from my girlfriend. Honestly I have never heard of this product before and only lovingly accepted it. Took me almost 2 weeks to try it out because I had thought I was a die-hard Gillette fan. Sadly I forgot to get new blades for the Gillette. I had no choice than to try out the Vikings Blade. I don’t think I have ever used a razor very carefully in my entire life. Occasionally I use to have nicks and cuts with the Gillette and there was no way I was going to let this Vikings Blade take me down that path.

With my lather made, I took the first short stroke of the razor and it took the entire stubble on its path. After I was done, my face felt as tender as my palms. In summary, it has been an amazing journey for me and the Vikings Blade. Usually I don’t like to do reviews but I am so impressed with how the Vikings Blade has held out. Went to do further research and found out the razor comes with a lifetime warranty. Well I don’t hope to use a particular razor for that long but hopefully I will give an update every 6 months to give feedback on how well the razor is holding up.

Can I Shave the Groin Area with a Safety Razor?

So you have gotten a good safety razor and it gives you all the cleanest and smoothest of facial shaves. You have got some growing bush down there and would like to do a little man-scape with the safety razor. To answer the question, yes it can be used and yes you could get an injury if you don’t know what you are doing.

The groin area is a very sensitive area of the body. This is understandable because there is no much exposure to this area. For this reason, you would have to be extra careful when using a razor down there – especially a double edge razor. Most cartridge razor users desist from using a DE razor when shaving the groin area. This is because they know the DE razor has a characteristic aggressiveness. Even the most experienced DE razor users know that it is extremely important to use the razor gently and carefully.

When using the DE razor, it is all about the angle. Once you are well acquainted with the angle positioning, you should have no problem using the DE razor in your grain area. If you are a bit drawn back because of the razor’s aggressiveness, then you may want to settle for a razor like the Vikings Blade. It comes with a unique micro-comb feature that helps to prevents accidental nicks and cuts during shaving.

One of My Best Shaves Ever!

I am one of the most skeptical individuals I have ever met. I like to keep things traditional and the Vikings Blade was the last razor I would have settled for. As a proud Gillette man, I don’t think I have ever used any razor outside Gillette. So when I got the Vikings Blade as a gift from a co-worker, I just felt he was trying to pull my legs. It was when I used the Vikings Blade on Sunday morning I realized there is so much more to my Gillette life. I love the fact that the razor comes with a classic handle. I am surprised people are complaining about that aspect.

Like any good razor, the VB if quite hefty and gives the right confidence that the handle will break during shaves. It gives an amazingly smooth shave. When I felt my face after the shave, it was as clean and tender like that of a child. I am usually very careful when I shave but I have not had any cut from the VB. With the sharpness of the blade, I was afraid it would be too aggressive for my face. I do not have a sensitive skin but I just like to be extra careful with blades. Like I said, I am yet to have any cuts. I highly recommend the VB to anyone in search for a new kind of quality! Thanks Vikings Blade.

Vikings Blade Review - A Quality DE Razor At Affordable Price

It has been 10 months since I started using the Vikings Blade. My major reason for ditching my Gillette was because of the price. The Gillette served me well among other things and I found it hard to let go or find a good replacement. As I searched online for something remotely as good as the Gillette, the Vikings Blade kept coming up with excellent reviews. Since it didn’t cost much, I decided to give it a try. I just loved the design of the VB when I opened the packaging; it was love at first sight! I was probably too carried away with my research, that I didn’t know the VB came in a classic handle. I love the weight of the razor as it allows for a firm grip.

For me, the selling point or advantage it has over other razors is the quality of the razor when in comparison with the prize. I believe the Vikings Blade is the answer to the question; can a good, quality DE razor be affordable? The thing I didn’t like about the VB at first was the handle. It took me a while to get used to it. I am hoping the company would make a similar model but with a long handle, especially for people with large hands like myself. All in all, I have finally bid farewell to my Gillette about 7 months ago. I highly recommend the Vikings Blade to anyone looking for a good, affordable DE razor.

Merkur HD 34C, Chrome Plated - Not so Good

I bought this product a few months back, I use this as well has Viking Blade safety razor.

pros -
weight is good so as to shave with the weight of the razor
grip is very good due to design on the handle
it is well crafted and even on all sides
fits perfectly in hand due to its size and is easy to navigate through skin curves.

Cons -
it is rather mild on the skin and doesn't shave as effective as Edwin Jagger. I usually do 3 passes Along the grain, across the grain and against the grain. Merkur needs that extra pass to get the BSS shave.

I'd say if you want the perfect baby smooth shave in 3 passes, this isn't the one for you. Viking Blade is better, that's my personal view.

I like the Vikings Blade Because It Is Cheap

I am in the military and it is a routine practice to always shave every morning. Sometime last year, my colleagues and I were just teasing about how much it costs us to keep a clean shave every year. That was the first time I heard of the Vikings Blade. When we all did our calculations, I discovered I spent much more than most of my colleagues. The guy that uses the Vikings Blade spent far less than all of us combined. I felt my Gillette was more superior and wasn't really going to compromise my clean shave for something cheap.

After several assurances that I wouldn't have a skin reaction for changing razor, I finally decided to give the Vikings Blade a trial. I am still in love with my Gillette but this Vikings Blade sure knows how to cut! There's absolutely no difference between both razor's shave. It is smooth on my skin and never gave me a cut. The features and all is cool, especially when I just compared it to a Gillette but the price for such quality just leaves me speechless!

THE GREATEST SHAVE EVER! Viking Blades has a new follower!!!

I got this finally yesterday. I got home from work, and immediately went to shaving. First off, I am NOT a product tester! The only thing stopping me from considering this item for the past couple weeks was that almost all reviews are from product testers. LAME... I saw the lifetime guarantee, so I saw I had nothing to lose, and ordered it...... DAMN!!!!!!!!! I love this item! I love the blades!!!!

I used musgo real oak moss shaving cream with this, and I got the BEST shave of my life!!! The only gripe I have is that I cannot find the blades this came with anywhere online. The blades are beyond great! The only time I get a shave this good, is on Sundays when I bust out the dreadnought shavette and put straight steel to my throat. When I do have to do a blade change, it's gonna feel like I'm killing a unicorn. ...Sad Face... PLEASE SELL BLADES! I love the shave I got from this razor! It is a beautiful addition to my shaving arsenal!!!

Please make a cut throat shavette, or a straight razor! I would use it!!! I will do an update on Saturday or sunday, with pictures. I wanna let my beard grow a little so I can enjoy the shave. My poor EJ89L razor is going to be put away for awhile. When I shaved with that, I felt like a rock star. When I shave with my Viking blade, I feel like a cross between the Fonz, Indiana Jones, Mac Gyver, and myself back when I was in Afghanistan kicking some serious anus. This Item is seriously for men only! If you are a skinny jean wearing sissy, please be aware that this product may put hair on your chest and make you want to do some pretty crazy manly things. I feel like going and bullying the toughest guy I can find! LOVE THIS PRODUCT!

Viking Blade - Sharper, Smoother and Cheaper

I have been a Gillette user for a very long time. I really didn’t have much of an issue with them but it was just too expensive to maintain. For people like us in the military, shaving is almost second nature to us. If you know how much those Gillette blades cost, then you do the math for someone like me that shaves every day. So that pretty much caused me to start researching on double edge blades with same quality as the Gillette. I can’t even remember where or when I first heard of the Viking blade. With much doubt in mind, I finally purchased it.
First thing that caught my attention was the 5 blades that came along with it. Then I gradually observed it gave clean, smooth shaves. Not only did I end up with a double edge razor that has cheaper blades, the product itself is very affordable. Just like one of my previous Gillette, I never have to worry about cuts and bumps. For me, the Viking blade was a win-win situation for me.

The viking blade safety razor review

This is my first time ever using a DE razor and all I can say is WOW! After using a Norelco wet/dry and doing everything possible to avoid ingrown hairs, I still managed to get THREE of them during the same shave last week. I had enough of this! So, after doing a lot of research, I saw a lot of information saying that a DE razor can really make a difference and reduce or eliminate ingrown hairs and irritation.

I got the Viking and was afraid yet excited to use it. I watched several Youtube video tutorials on how to use a DE razor (Geofatboy on Youtube was a goldmine of info for DE shaving!). I lathered up with Alpha Shave Gel (it doesn't really rather, but you get the idea, lol) and got started. I was SHOCKED at how much hair came off of my face, especially since I just shaved two days earlier. Evey rinse under the sink was full of black hairs. This is the CLOSEST shave I've ever had in my life. I've used Mach 3, Mach 4, Firefox, Stealth Shaver, blah blah blah- all those EXPEN$IVE vibrating gimmicks, gels, etc. Anyway, I am NEVER going back to those money making scam shaving tools!

The handle fits nicely in my hand and the comb really does protect against nicks and cuts. I did not have a single ingrown hair and only minor irritation! Keep in mind, this was my FIRST time using one of these and there is definitely a learning curve with DE razors.

My next move is to get a sample blade pack to try different blades. I can't believe how inexpensive blades are! I found a site "Maggards" that has an outstanding variety pack that gives you 5 blades of each brand that really gives your face a chance to "try before you buy". I have read so many reviews where people say they chose "Feathers" or "Astra SP" or "Shark" etc. It seems that there is no perfect blade for everybody. One thing is for sure: 50 blades will easily last you a year.

About me: White, course beard, sensitive skin (prone to ingrown hairs). I shave every other day but could definitely see me shaving M-F b/c this DE shaving is a total game changer!

Note: My GF couldn't believe how smooth my face was (with one pass, even!). She kept rubbing her hands on my face when she got home from work, haha.

You will be glad you bought this!
